Standing in Solidarity: The Spirit of Bayanihan During Challenging Times

As we face the devastating impact of the fires spreading through Los Angeles, I want to take a moment to remind you that we are never alone in times of hardship. Our Filipino traditions of bayanihan (working together as a community) and kapwa (shared humanity) call on us to step up, support each other, and move forward together.

These values—woven into the very core of Filipino culture and at the heart of Pamana Kali—are what we must lean on now. The strength of our community lies in our ability to see the struggles of others as our own, to offer a helping hand, and to provide comfort and encouragement wherever we can.

If you or someone you know has been affected by the fires, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Whether it’s emotional support, helping hands, or simply someone to talk to, we are here for each other.

We may not always be able to control what happens to us, but we can control how we respond. And I have faith that, as a community, we will respond with compassion, courage, and unity.

Please check on your neighbors, stay connected with loved ones, and offer whatever support you can to those in need. Small acts of kindness go a long way, and together we can embody the spirit of bayanihan in action.

Let’s continue to uphold the values that make our community strong and resilient. Together, we rise.

With care and solidarity,
Guro Alvin Catacutan
